BGI Lodge is a recently opened outdoor adventure facility situated in the rolling prairies of West Central Saskatchewan.

The lodge hosts hunters, fishermen and photographers through three seasons with shed hunting in the spring, fishing in the summer and bird hunting beginning in early fall. The area is home to an impressive variety of birds and wildlife, making it a great location for enthusiastic nature photographers and bird watchers throughout Saskatchewan’s warmer months.

Our professional guides have been hunting, fishing and living on the prairies their entire lives and have a thorough knowledge of the local Saskatchewan landscape. Ease of access coupled with the quality of game in the area make BGI Lodge the perfect choice.

Best of all are the wide open spaces in the aptly named "Land of Living Skies." With brilliantly coloured sunrises and sunsets and billions of stars lighting up the night skies (with no light pollution), there’s nothing to block the spectacular views while in pursuit of a genuine outdoor adventure.

The vast range of flora and fauna in the local area mean there’s something for everyone.

BGI is incredible! Shed hunting the diverse and amazing Saskatchewan landscape was something I will never forget. All the accommodations were second to none. The crews passion and dedication to the outdoors and their clients success/experience was quite impressive. The memories and friendships will last forever, we've already booked for next season and cannot wait.

BGI Lodge is a fully renovated elementary school turned outdoor adventure lodge.

Centered around Saskatchewan’s open fields and grassy parkland, it is ideally located for an authentic wildlife experience.

Located in the town of Macrorie, Saskatchewan, BGI Lodge is conveniently situated between two international airports. Just over an hour southwest of the city of Saskatoon and the John G. Diefenbaker International Airport, the lodge is also only a 250 kilometre drive northwest from Regina’s International Airport.

The lodge is fully licensed to hunt for migratory game birds and upland game birds as well as world-class fishing on both Lake Diefenbaker and the South Saskatchewan River, downstream from Gardiner Dam.

The facilities include five prairie animal themed guest rooms with two queen-sized beds accommodating up to 12 people at double occupancy.

Cooking and dining facilities are located on-site with meals homemade by a local caterer, serving up hearty Saskatchewan inspired dishes.

Evenings can be spent admiring the impressive display of taxidermy throughout the lodge while relaxing and reminiscing about the day’s adventures in the lodge’s lounge. With access to a bar, entertainment set and shuffleboard table, it’s a relaxing and comfortable setting to unwind and visit with other guests.

Bird Watching and Wildlife Photography

Wildlife Watching

Often host to more than 250,000 birds, BGI Lodge is located in the heart of the North American Central Flyway along the South Saskatchewan waterway and within driving distance of two world class bird sanctuaries: Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area and Eyebrow Lake. The lodge is also close to several provincial parks and game preserves such as Danielson Provincial Park and Douglas Provincial Park.

With opportunities to view and photograph rare species like the endangered Piping Plover, Burrowing Owl and Whooping Crane, there are also chances to get glimpses of impressive birds such as the Long-billed Curlew, American Avocet and Golden eagle. For larger wildlife, guests can expect to see trophy class White-tail and Mule deer, moose, elk, Pronghorn antelopes, Red foxes, American badgers, White-tail jackrabbits, and the much maligned coyote.

Bird Watching and Wildlife Photography

Photography

Saskatchewan’s rich Prairie Settler’s history can be readily explored by both photographers and those simply interested in experiencing the antiquities of time long past. With several locations of interest in the surrounding area, avid photographers have the opportunity to capture imagery of the beautiful relics left amongst the prairie landscape.

Birding and wildlife photography trips last from two to three days with guests returning year after year to enjoy the new bird arrivals in summer.

It truly is a prairie paradise for wildlife and landscape photographers.

Shed Hunting

Shed hunting is an acquired skill and, like traditional hunting, there’s always great anticipation to see what will turn up in the field. For avid hunters, shed hunting is the perfect way to transition from the big chase in the autumn into the off season.

Late March to early May is the best time to experience BGI Lodge’s shed hunting season. Our experienced guides spend the winter scouting and patterning the deer and elk to anticipate when - and most importantly where - they’re likely to drop their sheds.

In good conditions, our guides often find sheds at an average rate of one per hour but have been know to pick up a couple dozen antlers throughout the day. It’s all about knowing the animal’s habits and the best areas to search for sheds.

Angling

With more than 100,000 lakes, Saskatchewan offers some of the best freshwater fishing in the world.

BGI Lodge is conveniently located less than 20 kilometres from Lake Diefenbaker, the most popular angling lake in the province. Home to some of the highest concentrations of game fish it is also among the top Walleye lakes in North America, with 10-pounders being caught regularly. The 48-pound world record Rainbow Trout was also pulled from the depths of the lake in 2009.

Our lodge’s expert fishing guides will have you reeling in a variety of fish, from monster Northern Pike and Rainbow Trout to Sauger and Yellow Perch on our fully licensed river and lake fishing trips.

Guided Duck and Geese Hunting

Our fully licensed and guided waterfowl hunts offer the opportunity to pursue flocks of thousands of Canadian, speckle belly and snow geese as well as mallard ducks.

Waterfowl hunting expeditions last five days with early morning and evening hunting tours forming the mainstay of the trip. Through the duration of the excursion, guests will not only see, but hear the almost deafening wing beats of thousands of birds filling the sky.

After a bright and early breakfast, guests head off to the field to get ready for the morning birds. Evening hunting is also the perfect time to watch the sun go down, lighting up the Western Saskatchewan landscape.

Awesome people, awesome hospitality. I will be going back every year!!!

BGI Lodge is owned and operated by two passionate outdoorsmen, Tony Pyette and Cody Forsberg.

The Friendship

Tony and Cody first met when Cody was five years old. Although young, Cody was excited about fishing and would ask to join Tony out on the water. Eager to learn, Cody’s interests expanded into shed and animal hunting while their mutual friendship grew.

Both adept fisherman and huntsmen, their passion for ethical hunting and strong appreciation for nature has led them to opening BGI Lodge as business partners.

Tony Pyette

An entrepreneur always on the hunt for his next challenge, Tony owns several small businesses in Outlook, Sk, one of which was awarded the 2014 Business of the year.

Working full time as a health, safety and environment professional in the mining and construction industry, Tony recently spent 5 years working in Africa and Central America where he also took the opportunity to travel extensively with his wife.

For Tony, BGI Lodge is the perfect opportunity to combine his lifelong passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors with his entrepreneurial drive.

Cody Forsberg

Cody is an outdoor enthusiast born and raised in central Saskatchewan where he spent his summers as a fly-in fishing guide on Lake Athabasca in northern Saskatchewan. A full-time process operator for waste management company Newalta, Cody is also a partner and senior editor in the hunting publication Big Game Illustrated.

An avid outdoorsman, he promotes ethical hunting and catch and release fishing to help sustain Saskatchewan’s natural resources.

Hunting season truly never ends as Cody is also an enthusiastic shed hunter and loves the challenge of pre-season scouting and food-plotting.
